Topic: DDJ-SZ2 Macbook pro Tahoe OS recording not working
So i just updated my mbp pro and now the recording feature is not working.
I have downloaded the latest version of vdj as released and downloaded automatically by the software.
I checked for drivers on the pioneer dj and i have the latest drivers which was released in 2024.
I have attached my mbp pro version, my vdj record settings and a screenshot of a song playing but the record feature showing it is still waiting for sound.

What seems to be the issue here?

Did you check the audio tab for any errors or warnings? (Perhaps recording permission in macOS not given?)

audio config screen shot please

Attached the audio screenshot. Thank you.

this is the same setting i always have and have recorded countless mixes. the only difference since then and now is that i updated the macOS to the latest.

found this on google

use the Shift + Command + 5 keyboard shortcut to open the Screenshot toolbar, or go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen & System Audio Recording to manually grant permission to specific apps.

There's a pioneer utility for the sz2? Maybe recording is not configured at channels 9/10?

Few things that you need to look at..
1. Install DDJ-SZ2 Utility and make sure the driver is properly installed, you might need to "Allow" from System Security.
2. Open the DDJ-SZ2 Utility and in Controller Output tab, USB 9,10 is set to REC OUT
as shown here ..

3. If still not recording in VDJ, you might need to "Allow" Microphone to VDJ - that's how Mac OS names all the Inputs of a sound card. So go to System Settings->Privacy & Security->Microphone tab and allow VDJ to use it.

BTW, in your AUDIO SETTINGS screenshot, the SZ2 button doesnt have the device Icon. Perhaps you have some force- definition in /Devices folder ? If so, remove it.

so i opened the utility and saw it says "problem with driver configuration., Please reinstall drivers".

I downloaded the latest driver from here: https://support.pioneerdj.com/hc/en-us/articles/23836716422041-DDJ-SZ2-Audio-Driver-for-macOS-Sonoma

thats the latest one t hey have there.
- i reinstalled the drives. No change. Audio coming out of master but no recording,

- i uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers: MBP DOESNT EVEN RECOGNIZE MY SZ2 NOW!
I WENT BACKWARDS!
THIS BAD YALL! HELP ME!

i feel like the new MacOS i upgraded to doesnt supoort these drivers. i have a gig this weekend, i am so bummed.

I hope the pioneer dj forum community can help.

The message sort of implies either your drivers aren't installed, or it's not allowed to run as it should (as stated by others before).
A reinstall of the latest drivers and firmware from Pioneer may be a good option and pay attention to any system-level messages that occur during the install (e.g. System Extensions Blocked). Also make sure that you allowed the USB device to be used by the OS (USB devices need explicit allowance in more recent MacOS releases, and that permission could be reset between updates).

I would also double check with Serato as well - if it doesn't work there then you have your answer (it's not a VirtualDJ issue).

figured it out,

i have seen other people have issues but i didnt realise it would hit me as well.

"Tahoe OS is not yet compatible with rekordbox and our products. https://www.pioneerdj.com/en/news/2025/macos-tahoe-26-compatibility/
We’re currently reviewing the compatibility of our software and hardware with the macOS Tahoe 26. We’ll provide updates when we complete our testing. Until then, we can’t guarantee our products are compatible with the operating system. Please delay updating to macOS Tahoe 26 until we confirm compatibility."
GODDAMN IT.

Normally it isn't that much of an issue to update but yes, you already did the wrong thing by upgrading before the hardware manufacturer confirmed it to be safe.

and now downgrading sounds like a PITA.
