Summary

The story starts at the dawn of the new millennium. A man called Knock-Knock has just lost his parents in a fire that devastated the family house. Eager to move away from his frightening past he moved inside a big house in North London. The house used to be inhabited by a family of thirteen who mysteriously disappeared. When he was living in the house, a few events started to unfold; events that will terrify him, already traumatized by the death of his parents. Everyday he will confide a report of the events to a website, the Y2K Diary.

Trivia

1. The film contains archive footage of the main actor Vincent X. Hall from the day he was born until he reached adulthood.

2. The Y2K File was initially entitled Knock-Knock (Knocking on Heaven's door) taken after the main character's name: Knock-Knock and was initially presented at the Edinburgh film festival in 2007 with this title. It was later adapted and received its final title: The Y2K File.

3. The Y2K File title has been borrowed from the Y2K Diary search engine conceived and launched in 1999 for the year 2000 and the film makes intensive use of its graphics, animations and search engine.

4. At the height of its fame, the Y2K diary in April 2000 received over 500 M unique visitors as established by the Pie stats.

5. The Y2K diary was closed due to multiple hacks and pressure from competing search engine. There was no denying either that the project was primarily an Art project and NOT a commercial venture and lacking the muscles to compete as such.

6.The original length of the film was 6 hours when it was first presented in 2007. It was later reduced to just under 2 hours and it has taken until 2012 to finally achieve the final edit.

7. Funded with the help of UK state funding but delayed for one year and as a direct consequence the release had to be re-scheduled accordingly.

8. Although the film has been finally rated by the censor in 2015 in the UK and in the U.S. with some changes in the edits and fully audited, the film is still awaiting a wide distribution as there is still a limited amount of outlets for films processed in 4D.

9. Five trailers have been made available whilst waiting for the film release. Due to the subject matter being dealt with inside the film, the film has been delayed with the censors and the distributors are waiting for the appropriate time to show this film, late in 2016.

10. The story is based on the story of the Y2KDiary.com search engine but sadly the name has been hacked through Network Solutions, the U.S. official body for the .com; the site now only exists as the Y2KDiary.net and the authors have called upon the FBI to act but the FBI can't be bothered: how lawless and corrupt society really is (The Y2K File story is all about lives stolen and hacked. Make it what you will.)

11. The creator of the film has asked 36 people to watch the film fearing that the content may not be suitable to anyone. The results -in words were as follow: debilitating, insane, nerve-wracking, spellbinding, crucifying, devastating but on the whole watchable and deserves an airing and presentation.

12. In light of the ISIS atrocities equaling those in the West - but held behind closed doors to mainly children- this film is a stark reminder how the world still treats children everywhere in the 21st century: children have no right.

13. Back in 1999 Nick Peterson, the film director along with his producer Tom Norwood created a search engine and web portal for the year 2000. This daily diary soon became the trash can of the web and many incredible stories and news items were sent to them for consideration. One such was the story alleged to be real of this family used as the main inspiration for the film who has been slaughtered inside a cellar in London.

14. In 2007 Nick Peterson was desperate to work on new material, having finally moved to New York. Back in England in the the months before his move the news were saturated by stories about an ogre in Austria who kidnapped a woman for many years, of a religious sect in the U.S. who enslaved people and practiced cannibalism and the story of Myra Hindley and her partner about whether or not they should be allowed out of jail were they languished since the sixties for kidnapping and torturing children to death. All this convinced the director to work on this murder-thriller turned opera as it seems it has never been done before and some such stories needed to be addressed.

15. The story in this film begs the question: how in the 21st century and in the Western World such horrendous acts be semi-legal as it can take years before any authority and law enforcement act when it is often too late and why are the authorities allowing "religions" that practice all these atrocities, forcing people to live in cellars for years or even concentration camps, forcing anyone and children to be abused, physically and mentally and force people to work against their will.

16. It has taken 10 years to finally decide to expose this story. Many stories of of mass murders, child abuse and abuse of women have resurfaced around the world. Cruelty needs to be told, the only way to expose this kind of atrocities and stop it, no matter how frightening they are.

17. The film has been conceived as a therapy against all traumas by confronting the trauma with extreme fright. The film acts as a shock therapy by confronting evil at its highest level.

18. In December 2019, plans were made to re-enact the Y2K 2000 website for the Y2K2 revival of 2020. News of a new virus, this time biological allegedly emanating from China dashed any hope of a revival as the virus was set to become the biggest virus revival of the year.

19. The story of Knock-Knock in The Y2K file was inspired by the millions of entries posted in the Y2K diary. We were inclined to believe that it was a true story.
